Description:
This video was made in collaboration with Jennifer Meyers, for The Moving Crew artist collective exhibition Transfer-mation / Walking Division (Front Street Gallery, Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA).
In the exhibition Transfer-mation / Walking Division curator and Moving Crew member Jeremy Chen walked 12 miles of the longest street in Grand Rapids named Division Avenue/Martin Luther King Road, taking a snapshot of the horizon every 20 steps.
He then created a slideshow video from the 899 photos and sent it Moving Crew members. Members from as near as Grand Rapids and as far as Croatia responded with artwork or raw materials that were then transformed into the installation. Members gathered over two weekends to collaborate on the exhibition’s form and content.
This video is a response to the idea of a division line in a context of a city’s street and urban symbol whose name carries both the one of M. L. King and a word Division.
