The spatial multimedia installation “Site of Impact” recontextualizes and unites two earlier video works by artist Nadija Mustapić – “Threat from Over There” (2015) and “Here and There” (2019) – adding sound, textual, and non-physical elements into the installation space. Linking motifs of abandoned military zones with distant sea horizons, the exhibition creates an immersive and deeply atmospheric environment. Through a complex dramaturgical and scenographic arrangement that intertwines imagery, dispersed sound, polyphonic textual elements, and the physical presence of fog in the gallery, the author constructs precarious places stuck in an in-between space – between the past and the present. The motif of fog, present within the video works themselves, draws the viewer into a liminal zone in which the boundaries of the visible are continuously blurred and revealed.

In a moment of global political and economic destabilization of societies, marked by a crisis of belonging and growing inequalities, Impact Site questions our perception of territory, borders, and freedom. Relying on the constant tension and dichotomy of the words “here” and “there,” the installation confronts us with the illusion of security of a familiar space versus the uncertainty of that which is distant, unknown, and seemingly threatening. Through audio-visual documentarism, the work builds a phenomenological experience examining the multidimensional relationships of space, subjectivity, and politics. Monologues guide the audience through the space, while the “impact site” itself ceases to be exclusively a point of conflict and deconstruction. Instead, it becomes a call to the observer for resonance and contact – an introspective journey on which, losing the usual perceptive automatism in the foggy environment, we re-examine our own position within a polarized world.
